I'm just a girl with a sewing machine and a passion for fashion.
...and travel, photography, art, archaeology, the outdoors, and pretty much everything life has to offer.
Yes, my name is Kari, and I'm addicted to life.
I dislike sweatshops, mayonnaise, big businesses that take advantage of their workers, and people who lick their fingers.
I grew up in Carmel, California where at a young age, as my mother will tell you, I fashioned an exquisite apron out of paper napkins and staples that fit my her perfectly [without measuring!].
Upon completing high school, I made the decision to pursue archaeology/anthropology instead of fashion.
It took the better part of a decade, but now I'm back to sewing again and I've started my own boutique line.
My work station is between an air hockey table and a couch. One sewing machine, one serger, heaps of fabric, and me; that's it. And, I live in a former gold rush town by the name of Truckee, California, where the fountain of youth is not a myth and one never has to grow old.
I think of fashion as addictive, wearable art. If I can make something that not only I like, but pleases other people, then I'm happy. That's why, at least in the beginning, I'm going to charge cost for my pieces. I don't buy fabric in bulk; I go to my local fabric store in Reno and get a few yards of each fabric. If I like it, I buy more. My costs include fabric and labor. I put love into each piece I create, and I would never make something that I personally would not wear. I believe in comfort and style, with a little bit of edge and quirkiness. When it comes down to deciding which clothes to buy, I will only purchase something that I can do an impromtu high kick in. Thus, I incorporate that into my collection.
I hope you enjoy the pieces that I create. It's a work in progress, and I promise there is more to come!!!
